This evening, local businessman and community advocate Don Bonner announced his candidacy for Nanaimo City Council with the memorable phrase “Working together for a Better Nanaimo.”
Bonner is a former President of Nanaimo Rotary Club, former President of the Nanaimo United Way, former President of the Nanaimo Executives Association, current Board member of the Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce, and founder of A Better Nanaimo. His extensive work with charities extends to Africa, where he has volunteered multiple times in the global fight against polio and other waterborne diseases.
Bonner told supporters at the well attended event, “This election will be about our Values as a community and our Vision for our future. And as a proud member of the Algonquin First Nation, I recognize that an inclusive society, the need for Reconciliation and where all groups have a stake in our communal well being, benefits everybody. I look forward to working with eight other competent, thoughtful citizens to build a better Nanaimo.”
Supporter Councillor Diane Brennan offered, “Don Bonner and I have worked together on several United Way community campaigns. I know him well, and what has consistently stood out for me is how honest, respectful and collaborative he is. Don brings integrity, grit and determination to all he does. I know Don will provide positive leadership to Nanaimo.”
Don Bonner will be meeting with his fellow Nanaimoites in the coming days and weeks to learn more about their concerns and hopes for our city.
